Coming up on todays episode, how to to make dubstep anywhere, using your iPhone!
NanoStudio provides the best tools to make some very complex arrangements and sounds. For a low price, you can download it off the App Store. Today, we’re going to build the dub step bass synth from scratch.
And we’re making it from scratch because we’ve all heard that default preset that comes with nano studio, its a bit over played and you should really start making your own custom patches. .
Alright, so the sound were going to make is a very beefy, thick raspy sounding bass. Exactly the type of sound you hear in dubstep. To to make this lets go straight to the Eden synth.
First thing you want to do is jump to bank “C” and select an initialized patch. By default you get two saw oscillators, which sounds very much like a chip tune, very bright, crisp and digital.
So next, lets change up A and B, To make the sound, I blended together the “vox ah” and “harp” sounds.
Lets go ahead and change the transpose to -12, so we have a lower set of octaves to play with.
Next page down and lets leave the filter type to LP, with a slope of 12 and leave the cutoff and resonance at 0.
Now lets bring down the filter envelope amount because we’ll be controlling this with the XY pads.
Next page, lets leave amp envelope on the default settings. For a smooth transition between keys, bring the polyphony to 1 so it Glides between the notes. I also tend to bring up the pitch bend range to max with all my sounds.
Next page down, this is where the bass really starts taking shape. Lets goto LFO 4. Here we need to set the sync type to “Beat”. Next bring up the amount all the way up and change the filter type to a “Sine” wav. This rate amount gives it that smooth, woob woob sound.
Ok, now one of the last thing you’ll want todo before testing it out is make sure XYPad 2 is set to LFO 4. Ok looks good, now lets test out the sound.
Alright, now lets to take a bit further, we can give it more punch by going over to the mixer and applying some eq and compression.
So in the mixer, lets goto the channel we were working in. Tap on the FX button to activate them. Now you can tap and hold on the FX inputs to load in the EQ and compressor. In the eq lets bring up the gain in the lows and highs, a bit more width in the mids. Compressor has pretty good settings by default so now lets just play with it.
Sounds a lot more thicker, and punchier. Alright, this is sounding pretty good.
Alright and there you have it. Thats how to make that dub step bass sound on your iPhone, using Nano Studio.
